West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU): Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Togo

The West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) is an West African economic and integration organisation.

The member countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) are:

  1. Benin
  2. Burkina Faso
  3. Ivory Coast
  4. Guinea-Bissau
  5. Mali
  6. Niger
  7. Senegal
  8. Togo

All the countries of the WAEMU are members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The West African Monetary Zone (Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone) should be integrated in the WAEMU

The purpose of the WAEMU is to achieve the economic integration of the member economies:

  1. WAEMU Common market (2000)
  2. Common External Tariff
  3. Common Currency

The eight member countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) use CFA Franc as the common currency (Central Bank of West African States)

The West African Development Bank is the financing agency for the development of the eight countries of the WAEMU

The Headquarters of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) are in Ouagadougou
